SigTracker is a company I found through the Work Place Like Home forum several months ago that recruits home-based workers for data entry. The work you do for them involves updating voter registrations for various states. I held off on writing about SigTracker for some time because there are so many data entry scams out there and I just wasn’t sure about this one. But since that time, many people have done work for the company and been paid as promised.
This opportunity is for US residents only, and you do have to verify your citizenship before they will accept you. You can verify this through Elance, which is where you have to sign up to do the work.
The Job
As mentioned above, the work you do for SigTracker involves updating voter registrations. From the website, “Work includes data entering circulator affidavits, updating voter registrations, and searching voter databases for petition signers.”
What It’s For
You are doing the work for the SigTrack database application that allows campaign managers to view results from petition and voter registration drives.
The Pay
The pay is per piece. This job has been listed on Elance (you can also apply through there), and an expired listing on that site says this about pay, “To start, 3.7¢ per average signature (10 keystrokes per tag), 15¢ per registration, scaled 50-100% depending on accuracy. “ I’m not sure what this would work out to hourly as it will depend on your speed and accuracy, but it’s supposedly not third world market pay. It does look like you could lose a lot of the money you earn if you aren’t accurate, so that’s something to think about.
Payments are made weekly on Wednesdays. It looks like they pay through Elance, so you have several different options for getting your pay including mailed check, bank transfer, or Paypal.
The Schedule
This is very flexible. You can work when you want provided there is work to do. Keep in mind there may not always be work, which is why you will want to consider this a side egg and nothing more. But as we all know side eggs can be good earners and certainly come in handy when work is slow or gone anywhere else. Sometimes multiple side eggs can turn into an income.
Requirements
There is a test to take to pass. It’s available on their website. There’s also lots of instructions available on the SigTracker website that explain how to do everything. After you’ve read through the material, you can take the test. If you fail the test, you can apparently retake it but I believe there is a limit on the number of times you’re allowed to re-test.
Tech Requirements
Here are the tech requirements from the website. Luckily for Mac users, this is something you can do, too:
- Windows 7+ or Mac OS 10.7+
- dual monitors (one should be 1080p) – I’m wondering if this is an absolute requirement, for some companies it’s optional.
- broadband internet access (10mbps or faster recommended)
Feedback
When this job first started popping up here and there, many people (including myself) were hesitant about it. The site being brand new was a little worrisome and there was next to nothing about it online. As we all know, data entry is so often associated with “scam.” But since last September many, many people have been doing the work through Elance and getting paid.
As far as the work is concerned, many people don’t like how you can get so much of your money deducted for not being accurate (up to 50 percent of your earnings). And then of course there isn’t always work, so this can’t be depended on all the time.
If you are registered as a member at Work Place Like Home, you can read a lot of feedback on SigTracker here.

If you want to look into this opportunity further, you can go here. Keep in mind that I don’t know for sure if SigTracker is currently needing workers. From the things I’ve read, it appears that their staffing needs vary quite a bit.
As always, I appreciate your comments so if you have experience with SigTracker you’d like to share, feel free to post it.
